In this session we will dive into the transformative impact of WebAssembly (Wasm) on the development of Edge AI applications for tiny microcontroller (MCU)-based devices, where resource constraints have traditionally limited programming capabilities. As these devices lack the compute power for conventional frameworks, Wasm introduces a lightweight, secure, and portable execution environment that makes edge computing on constrained hardware a reality, not just a possibility. We’ll highlight the groundbreaking capability of programming in Python for edge applications—a development once virtually impossible on MCUs—thanks to WebAssembly and WASI (WebAssembly System Interface). Through Sony’s AITRIOS platform and real-world use cases, we’ll showcase how Wasm not only simplifies edge development but also unlocks Python’s full potential in embedded environments, bridging accessibility and functionality across diverse IoT ecosystems.
